Hello,

Im interested in the Ultramet CPT technology for two different heat exchanger services. I need one heat excahnger to cool HF ( 40% hydroflouric acid and nitric acid). The other heat exchanger I need for a piranha solution (sulfuric acid / peroxide mixture). Im not sure how tantalum does in these kinds of services but please let me know if this would be a good applications for Ultramet CPT.

Hello Mike,

Ultramet CPT does provide primarily plate and frame type heat exchangers for heating and cooling strong acids.

In the heat exchanger application utilizing a piranha solution, the Ultra-Metal tantalum surface would be ideal for handling this acid mixture as tantalum will not a have a corrosion rate in this media.

In HF (hydroflouric acid) its a different story. HF is one of the only acids that will attack tantalum metal. So this is an applications that I would not recommend tantalum for.
I hope this helps.
