Wargaming’s Android version of World of Tanks Blitz is now live worldwide, bringing the free-to-play mobile action MMO to millions of Android owners. The version has also been updated alongside the iOS version with a host of new content, including the British tank line, crew skills, new map and cross platform functionality.
The initial roaster of vehicles and maps available is also much lower than in the PC version. In total there are 90 Soviet, American and German tanks and 8 maps to explore. I fully expect these numbers will increase with time but unfortunately, right now there is no British metal to take into battle. You also need iPhone 4S or iPad 2 to play and there is no Android version available as yet.
The goal of the seven-on-seven matches is to either hold a central point for 100 seconds, or wipe-out the enemy tanks. Well-designed arenas offer just enough space and cover to not feel oppressive, while ensuring you never have to search for a fight. This creates a constant intensity with games rarely reaching their seven minute time limit. Buy

Blitz is altogether a simpler, lighter affair than its more simulatory forefather, betraying its background as a mobile variant of the original World of Tanks, designed to make tanky combat playable on iOS and Android as well as PC. But the same can’t be said of its progression system, which — appropriately, for a game about tanks — demands a slow, trundling grind to earn new vehicles. New players will quickly reach tiers two, three, and four, but to unlock a tier five tank requires a serious time commitment. A tier six tank is double that, and tiers seven onwards are several tens of hours of match time.
If you've played its virtually identical predecessor, you've already experienced most of what World of Tanks Blitz has to offer. The game plays just like its PC and console brethren, and it does it looking great with dynamic shadows, decent textures, and running at an impressive 60FPS the whole way through. You've got a plethora of tanks, your nice looking armory, your fairly balanced F2P elements (including the ability to buy a subscription and link your account to Wargaming.net), and relatively large maps.
The gameplay is impressively smooth for a real-time game with 14 players on iOS, and the short and sweet nature of the battles makes it all too easy to duck in for a round or two here and there. Outside of the matches, working your way up through the different levels of tanks is a lot of fun and good incentive to keep the game in your rotation. Plenty of players in our forums have been enjoying it, too. It’s a rare free-to-play game that respects both your time and your money, and it’s definitely worth checking out.
