hello,

There are no useful retarders for oil paint that are also not toxic in a studio setting and also probematic in use. In the Painting Best Practices workshop, we address these issues and provide concise suggestions on how to descrease or increase drying time of oil paint. For example, painting on acrylic grounds will slow the drying rate of oil paint as opposed to lead oil grounds. Another example, using colors with slow drying oils, such as safflower and walnut as you have found, slows drying.

Thanks!
