Hey Ultramet CPT,

I was working with a rupture disc company the other day for a mixed acid environment where they had recommended to use a nickel alloy in combination with a Ta burst disc. I am concerned about the dissimlar metal contact between these to materials in this low pH aggressive acid media. Would Ultramet CPT be a cost effective option for the rupture in this case?

Excellent question,

In strong acid environments it is not recommended to have dissimilar metals in contact with each other due to galvanic corrosion effects. It is best to have the rupture discs and the rupture disc holder be the same material.

As a result if you need a solid tantalum rupture disc, you should definitely have the body made of tantalum as well. You can request the Ultra-Metal tantalum diffusion surface from most major rupture disc OEM's
